Who Says You Shouldn't Play Hookie From a Days Work?
As a true baseball fan with an alliance to a certain team that I shall not mention [EDITOR: Chicago Cubs], when I was asked to attend a day game during the work week with one of my best friends I had a very hard time resisting. The home team was already losing in the first inning, but, the sun was shining. I was continually checking my Blackberry for that magical lead I was hoping for- but, that wasn't happening and the phone wasn't ringing.
As I sat there enjoying the conversation and cold beverages, my conscience kept grinding on me that I should be working and pounding the pavement. I tried my hardest not to think about the mortgage payment and bills and enjoy the game, but, it poses its challenges. I prayed we didn't get flashed on TV like Ferris Bueller when the foul balls flew our direction (one almost hit me in the head!)
As the heat was melting my skin, I decided I needed a break and ducked out to the bar in the shade for a snack [EDITOR: Beer]. I was choking down my dry pretzel when all off a sudden out of the corner of my eye I see a well known restaurant owner from Springfield. I wanted to hide so others didn't know I took days off work, but, being my outgoing self, I made sure I said Hi!
We chatted for a second and he proceeded to tell me that his new location would be opening soon- I asked if he would hire me and the answer was a solid YES!
The deal was closed, the paperwork completed before that week was over.
Thanks for taking me out to the ballgame, my friend. I knew I loved baseball.
